F is for Fish

Work time activities for this week were a success.
F collage:
Finding pictures in magazines that start with the f sound. Then cut and paste.
Fish counting:
Children roll the dice. Then they have to fish for that amount of fish.
Every week we practice writing the letter for the week.  We use the rainbow writing method. Children trace over the letter with a different color to make a rainbow. At the bottom of the page is this weeks poem or Nursery Rhyme where the kids go on a "letter hunt".  When they find the letter the get to highlight it.

Since it was fish week we did a little fish graphing.

Excelent Week

For work time this week we practiced "ed" words. The kids used the word list to make words with magnetic letters on our whiteboard.
We did a little "E"xperiment with a raw egg in boiling water. We did some observational drawings before and after. We also made a hypothesis. The kids were pretty amazed and they thought that a poached egg was pretty tasty.
We learned a little bit about elephants this week.  We learned how to draw them and learned a new sight word "have".  Don't you just love the eyelashes on this one?

Hey Diddle Diddle

I'm trying to play catch up on this preschool blog so I'm posting some pictures from the week of d.
We read and learned Hey Diddle Diddle.
We substituted the characters in the rhyme with other nouns. The kids thought this was hilarious.  During work time in the next weeks they read it and changed it independently and they still thought it was so funny.

Math towers for work time. It is always fun to build tall things. I loved when they made the connection that it looks like stairs. Such a smart class.

Work Time

This was another great week. Here are the activities that I set up for work time.

Name Stamping: The kids stamped their own name and then I had a class list handy for them to stamp their friends name. Domino counting: I set up a number line. The kids were to count the total number of dots and park them under the correct number.

Word Sorting: Last week we did this activity in class not so much for the kids to be able to read every word but more to identify word endings just by sight. I'm happy let you know that they made huge progress in the 3 days. By the end of the week some kids were reading the words piece of cake.

A Perfect Preschool Week

This is the third week of school and I think I have the brightest students. They are doing everything that they are expected to do. I took a few shoots of them at work time. All of them were busy and on task.

Reading the pocket chart. On a letter hunt for "b"

Practicing writing their own name and friend names with dry erase markers.

Science: blowing bubbles. The question was how do you make a big bubble?

Math: counting bees

Mixed up apples: place the apples 1-10 in order.

Smarty Pants Preschool
2011-2012 school year

Welcome to a great new year. For the 2011-2012 school year I will be teaching from the Zoo Phonics program. This program is phonics based and great for little ones because it uses multiple learning styles to teach letter sounds and names. Literacy is a huge part of my class, but I believe that preschool needs to be fun, filled with art, music, science, math and socialization to properly prepare children for kindergarten.
I will follow the Gilbert school district calendar and will begin classes on
Tuesday, AUGUST 16, 2011.
Classes are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 am to 11:30 am.
Children must be 4 years old buy December 2011. Tuition is $100 per month. There is an additional $50 supply fee that is due by July 1 and is nonrefundable after that date.
Teaching is a joy for me. I have earned my bachelors degree from Brigham Young University in Early Childhood Education and have earned both Utah and California teaching credentials. I have 4 years experience teaching kindergarten in public school in California. This will be the third year teaching preschool out of my home, it has been a wonderful experience and I am eager and excited to start another school year!!
